New Athens District 60 celebrated Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 22nd. Various dress up days and activities were planned throughout the week. The 2nd and 3rd grade classes participated in a placemat decorating contest. The 4th and 5th grade classes participated in a bookmark decorating contest. The placemats will be used at Village Pizza and the bookmarks will be used at the town library. Winning entries were: (L-R) Kaylynn Hawkins (5th grade), Madi Stewart (4th Grade), Connor Strackeljahn (3rd grade), and Rachel Feder (2nd grade). The Primary Student of the Month was Ella Birkner, kindergarten daughter of Carl and Michelle Birkner. The Intermediate Student of the Month was Jared Lischer, fourth grade son of Bruce Lischer and Melissa Lischer. They were presented with a medal at dinner.  The students who were nominated for Student of the Month were presented with an Honorable Mention certificate and ribbon.
