The New Athens Homecoming Committee is looking for Girls to participate in the contest for Miss New Athens for the New Athens Homecoming held the third weekend of July.  Interested girls have a chance to win cash prizes along with the Title of Queen. If you are interested and are 15 years of age, please see Regina in the High SChool office for more information and to sign up

Good luck to the volleyball team tonight as they play their first game in the Regionals tonight at 5:30 at Christ Our Rock Lutheran School.

The boys basketball team is selling discount cards that include discounts to your favorite local restaurants.  They are only $10 each.  If you are interested in purchasing one talk to a boys basketball player or Mr. Widdersheim.

Lifetouch will be here next week on Thursday, November 1 for retakes and fall sports/clubs.  They will be taking the following groups:  volleyball, cross country, golf, FFA, FCA, Vespa, band, chorus, and student council. 

The USMC will be here on Thursday, October 25th for a lunch visit.

Congratulations to the girl’s cc team on advancing to the sectional meet. The boys missed qualifying by 5 points. Deric Maurer qualified as an individual while Chandler Hoffman missed qualifying by one place and 5 seconds.

Congratulations to the varsity volleyball team on its win last night over Woodlawn in the last game of the regular season. The girls will begin Regional play next week on Tuesday at 5:30 at Christ Our Rock Lutheran.

Spirit wear is tentatively planned to be delivered today.

Good luck to the cross country teams as they compete in the Regionals tomorrow in Smithton.

There will be a meeting during Homeroom in Mr. Widdersheim's room for all boys basketball players.

Congratulations to all three volleyball teams on their wins last night over Dupo.

Reminder: the first quarter enrichment trip is tomorrow instead of Friday.

Reminder that your money for the field trip is due tomorrow morning.  Remember that you need to bring your own lunch and bring a jug of water or whatever you want to drink.

You need to make sure you dress warm and wear proper shoes.

If you need a sack lunch, you need to tell your homeroom teacher ASAP.

We will load the buses after the warning bell on Thursday.

Freshmen and seniors will go to bus 1:  Hager's Bus

Sophomores will go to bus 2:  Albert's bus

Juniors will go to bus 3:  Thoma's bus

The activities we will be doing is Frisbee golf, fire building, hiking, and ziplining.  You do not have to do the ziplining if you choose not to.

Band students need to report to the gym immediately after announcements to help set up for the concert. The concert begins tonight at 7:00 in the junior high gym, come out and listen to some great music.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in last night's math contest at SWIC.  Individual grade level placers were:  Freshman Becca Wilson 4th, Juniors Owen Whitworth 6th and Michael Parker 3rd, Seniors Deric Maurer 4th and Levi Daab 3rd.  The team of Deric Maurer, Michael Parker and Mason Page placed 3rd.  Great job everyone.

Congratulations to Calvin Cooper on setting the new Freshman record on the New Athens cc course.

Enrichment has been moved to Thursday of this week due to the weather forecast for Friday. The trip to Camp Wartburg will now be on Thursday instead of Friday. Please have waivers and money turned in by tomorrow morning.

Congratulations to the JV and varsity volleyball teams on their wins over Marissa last night at the Volley for the Cure game. Thank you to all who came out and supported the fight against cancer.

Good luck to the volleyball team tonight as they take on Dupo at home on Senior Night. The freshmen match will begin at 5:30. Come out and support our two seniors at their last home game of the season.

Congratulations to Hannah Fisher for being selected to the ILMEA District 6 Honor Band. She auditioned against like 40 other flute players and was one of around 12 to be selected. She'll be playing in a concert at Belleville West next month.

The girl's CC team won their 2nd consecutive Kaskaskia Division Championship on Saturday as they placed 2nd overall out of 10 teams. All Conference Kaskaskia Division honors were earned by Britney Miller-2nd, Danika White-3rd, and Grace Lauer-10th.  Emma Hager ran a strong race to finish 13th.

The boy's team finished 5th out of 11 teams overall and 3rd in the Kaskaskia Division.  Earning All Conference Kaskaskia Division honors were Deric Maurer-5th in a school course record, and Chandler Hoffman-9th.  Owen Whitworth, Calvin Cooper, and Levi Daab had strong races, and Jacob Burgin ran his best race of the year to finish as the 6th runner for New Athens.

Monday, October 15 is the VOLLEY FOR THE CURE game and ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Chili/Soup Supper! The cost is $5. Wear pink and come cheer on the volleyball team, warm up with a bowl of chili, and raise money for a great cause! 
The sophomore class will also be hosting a free will donation bake sale- all proceeds will go to Kamden Newman and his family.

 Today is the last  Day for FCA to sign up To bring a a crock pot in for the Soup supper Monday night.
Also any sophomore who would like to sign up to bring in a dessert for the bake sale please do so by the end of today. The sign up is in Mrs. Dehlers room.

Monday is the Volley for the Cure game.  We are encouraging everyone to wear pink to school on Monday and attend the game at 5:30.  If you ordered a shirt, they will be delivered today.

Cheer tryouts will be held  Wed, Oct 10 from 3:30-6:30. Please sign up on the sheet in HS office if you're interested in trying out for the team!

Tomorrow the juniors and freshmen will be taking the PSAT. All sophomores and seniors will attend their regularly scheduled classes; those sophomores and seniors who have Mr. Widdersheim, Mrs. Hogg, or Mr. Bambrough in hours 1-4 will go to P.E. instead. P.E. tomorrow will be held in the JH gym.

Seven runners earned individual awards at last week’s Pinckneyville CC invitational. Varsity awards went to Britney Miller, Deric Maurer, Chandler Hoffman, and Owen Whitworth. Calvin Cooper won a fresh/soph award, while Grace Lauer and Emma Hager earned awards in the Open race. 

There's a mandatory meeting for anyone who wants to try out for cheerleading today during activity period in Mrs. Dehler's room.
