The final FCA meeting for this year will be tonight, from 5-6 pm

Locker clean out will be today during activity period.

High School graduation will be Saturday at 2PM in the junior high gym.

Any student needing to take a summer school class for make up credit should contact Mr. Works ASAP about options.

Students should not go to the JH end during finals week (unless they have actual business down there)

Semester exams will be Thursday and Friday with exams 1-3 on Thursday and exams 4-7 on Friday. The high school will be dismissed at 2:06 on Thursday and the entire district dismissed at 2:06 on Friday.

The Operating Engineers will be accepting requests for taking the Apprentice Evaluation Test starting Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28 from 9AM to 1PM. Requests are made in person at 1969 Triad Road, St. Jacob, IL.

Trivia Night!

Save the date!  You are invited to attend Trivia Night, sponsored
by the New Athens School Library on February 2, 2013.  Trivia will
be at the Bullpen.  Doors open at 6pm, trivia starts at 7pm.

Purpose:
 - Fill deficit in library budget since the loss of PTO funding
 - Fund future family reading nights

Goal:
 - Last time we raised almost $1800, so that should be our goal.

Details:
 - Tables are $80 for up to 8 adults
 - You can bring snacks, but all drinks are bought on-site
 - $10 for mulligans (10 freebie answers)
 - 1st place prize: $160
 - 2nd place prize: $80
 - Prize for best decorated or themed table and players

There will also be a silent auction!

We really need and appreciate your support.  You might also
receive additional information from your homeroom teachers.

The boy's basketball team defeated Chester on Saturday to win the Chester Invitational Tournament.  Tyler Myer anf Blake Ragland were named to the All-Tournament Team and the New Athen's cheerleaders received an award as the top cheerleading team in the tournament. 
 
The boy's basketball team has a home game on Tuesday against Governor French Academy. This is a varsity game only that begins at 7PM.
 
The FS boy's basketball team plays at Dupo today.
 
The girl's basketball team has a home game on Wednesday against Waterloo and they play at Valmeyer on Thursday.
 
HS play students will have their cast and crew party on Friday January 18 from 6-10 at NAHS. Members will have a meeting in activity period today in the HS library.
 
School will be dismissed at 12:11 on Friday for school improvement activities and there is no school on Monday, the 21st due to Martin Luther King Day.


Spanish club will be meeting on Thursday.
 
 
All P.E. students that are attending the Hidden Valley Trip need to have their money and permission slips turned in by Tuesday, January 22nd.
FCA Meeting - This Wednesday night from 5:00 - 6:00 in Mrs. Dehler's Room.
All Volleyball Players need to meet in room 102 during Homeroom on  Wednesday.

Mr. Works will tentatively supervise after school conditioning on Wednesday for any students interesting in working out.
 
Honor Society will be meeting on Tuesday during homeroom and activity period.
 
Mr. Works will meet with all sophomores today during NAIL period to discuss a dual enrollment/dual credit program being offered next year in conjunction with SWIC.  The meeting will be in the high school gym.
 
Mr. Works needs to meet with seniors during NAIL period on Tuesday.  The meeting will be in Mrs. Dinkelman's room.
 
Mr. Works needs to meet with all juniors on Tuesday during homeroom. The meeting will be in the cafeteria.
 
A representative from the Army national Guard will be here during lunch period on Wednesday.
 
There will be a lock down drill on Wednesday at approximately 9AM

 
· Seniors-SWIC would like to invite interested students to their High School Senior Visit Day on January 25th from 9:30 a.m.-noon at the Belleville Campus in the Main Complex-Theatre.


· Seniors-AXA Achievement Community Scholarship is being offered to students active in their community. Details available in guidance office and on-line. Deadline: 2-1-13.

· Seniors-The CBAI Foundation for Community Banking is offering several scholarships. All high school students are eligible to apply. Deadline: 2-4-13.

· Seniors-Illinois PTA-The Lillian E. Glover Scholarship is being offered to seniors planning to major in education. Information on this is available in the guidance office. Deadline: 2-15-13.

GIRL'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE CHANGE.  THE GIRL'S BB GAME SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 14 WILL BE PLAYED TONIGHT AT MARISSA.  THERE IS A VARSITY GAME ONLY BEGINNING AT 6:15PM. 
 
Congratulations to Derrick Hoffman who was selected to the All-Area Honorable Mention Team in cross country.
 
The boy's basketball team competes in the Chester Tournament January 8, 10, and 12th.  The boys play Elverado on Tuesday at 6PM.
 
Congratulations to the girl's basketball team on finishing second in the Chester Tournament. The girl's have a game at Dupo on Thursday.
 
Students should initially follow their 2nd semester schedules and then contact Peggy or Mr. Works today for any needed changes.
 
Mr. Works would like to meet with the girl's cross country team during activity period today in room 202today  and with the boy's team tomorrow during activity period in room 202.
 
Students are reminded of the following attendance policy.  A parent may only call in for absences four times each quarter.  Any absence over four will result in an unexcused absence with only 50% credit for missed work, unless the absence is for medical, dental, or a significant reason excused by Mr. Works. Also, any student accumulating 10 unexcused absences in any class  for the semester will be removed from that class and will receive a failing grade for the semester.
 
Seniors who may be in danger of not having the required credits for graduation should check with Mr. Works to confirm whether correspondence classes are necessary.
 
There will be an Art Club meeting today after school from 3:20 to 4:30. Any high school or junior high student is more than welcome to attend.
 
Afternoon Beck students will not attend those classes on Wednesday.

Volleyball Players:
Sign-Up sheets are posted outside of Mrs. Patton's office door for the J.H. Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, January 26th. Please sign up to work a shift and sign up to bring a soup/sandwich items or other food items for the tournament.
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
This Friday, January 11th, the Pride Team will be selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in the H.S. lobby.
$1.00 a piece or $10.00 for a dozen.

· Seniors-Egyptian Electric is offering (8) scholarships, (7) academic scholarship and (1) is for a student that will be attending the lineworker’s school. So if your parent is an Egyptian electric customer or employee, check in the guidance office for details on these scholarships. Deadline: 12/31/12.

The girl's basketball team has an away game against First Baptist O'Fallon tonight. The girls open play in the Lebanon tournament next week with a game on Thursday at 6:30PM against Columbia.

The FCA Christmas Party is tomorrow from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. in Mrs. Dehler's Room. Please DO NOT bring a gift. There will be pizza and drinks provided. Any member who would like to bring a dessert, feel free.
 
Fourth  hour exam teachers  need to take a count only of the number of students for lunches and then report this to Peggy.
 

Final exams  4-7 will be given today.  The entire district will be dismissed at 2:06 .  There is a teacher's institute day on Friday and Christmas Break will run through January 6th, with school resuming Monday, January 7th.


The boy's basketball team defeated Dupo last night.  The boys play in the Sesser Tournament next week with the first game on Wednesday at 8PM against Sesser.


Students should not be dismissed for lunch today until announced over the intercom at 12:23.  The lunch period will last until 12:53.
 
Any student interested in attending a SEMO basketball game December 19, 29, or January 3 should see Mr. Works for complimentary tickets.

Congratulations to the volleyball team for finishing 2nd in the Sparta Tournament. Anisa AlBori and Denae White were selected to the all-tournament team.

The top 5 girls (Olivia Hoffman, Bailey Dudeck, Alina Lance, Courtnie Niederbrach, and Lexi Cahoon) all earned individual medals as the girls placed 3rd at yesterday's Chester Cross Country Invitational. Derek Hoffman won and individual award in the boy's varsity division while Dylan Toedte won an award in the fresh/soph division. The team has a home meet on monday.



All three volleyball squads (varsity/jv/freshmen) won their "volley for the cure" matches last night at Marissa. The varsity team plays in the Sparta Tournament on Saturday.
