The boy's cross country team finished 8th out of 12 teams at the Chester Invitational just 3 points behing Chester, 4 points behind Columbia, and 8 points behind Waterloo.  Zach Bogacki was the #1 New Athens runner, finishing 20th overall out of 136 runners.  Cameron Reuss was 25th, Zach Bickel 34th, Ben Mohr 36th, and Bobby Poe 45th to round out the scoring.  Bogacki and Bickel earned individual medals in the FS division.  Molly Works finished 2nd overall in the girl's race out of 77 runners.  Kayla Doiron was 35th, Zoey Hill 50th, Abby Wolf 62nd, and Aimee Stephens 66th to round out the scoring.  Molly received a medal in the Varsity division and Kayla received a medal in the FS division. Zoey Hill ran a personal best for the year.
 
The cross country teams have their final home meet on Monday at the Okaw Park at 4:15 PM. Students are encouraged to come out and support the runners, but especially seniors:  Cameron Reuss, Bobby Poe, Ben Mohr, John Gregory, Kyla Miller, and Aimee Stephens.
 
On October 15th The New Athens Lady Jackets along with the Marissa\Coulterville Meteors, will be participating in Volley For The Cure. This is done to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We will be selling shirts for $10, and some of the money will go to the foundation. The order forms are available in the office. We would also like to be recognize the survivors at half time with a pink carnation. Please contact Ms. Patton with names of survivors attending. We are raising money for this cause and would like to PINK OUT THE SCHOOL.  We would like to encourage everyone to wear pink on this day, and come and watch the volleyball games as all money made will be for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Anyone interested in making a donation can contact the Athletic Department.
 
There is an early dismissal scheduled for today.  We will be on an abbreviated schedule and will dismiss at 12:12.
 
The math team is scheduled to compete at SWIC on Monday.
 

The volleyball team has a home match scheduled for Tuesday against Trico.  There will only be a varsity match, and the first game will begin at 6:15 PM.

FFA members can turn in hog raffle tickets and money to Miss Hand anytime. The hog raffle will end on October 16, 2009.

 

There will be Soils practice Monday, October 5 immediately after school until 5pm.

 

There will be an FFA meeting on Monday, October 5 at 7pm in the Ag Room.

 

On the October calendar, the BBQ at the Mill scheduled on October 10th has been moved to November 7th.

 

A SWIC representative will be here on Monday during activity period.  Students need to sign up by noon on Monday to meet with her.

 

The Red Bud College/Career Fair will be Monday night from 6-7:30 PM in the HS cafeteria. See Mrs. Wolter for a list of participants.
