posted Apr 28, 2009, 6:59 AM by Dennis Works
High school yearbooks are on sale.  The books cost $40 each and you can get your book personalized with name imprinting ($5 additional) and up to four icons ($5 each).   The yearbook staff will be taking orders during lunch beginning today. The order deadline is May 15.

The baseball and softball games will not be played at New Athens today, but may be played at Steeleville if their field is dry enough. They are scheduled to play at Freeburg tomorrow.

The athletic banquet is scheduled for May 13th.

Selected FFA members will be attending the state livestock judging competition at U of I today.

Detentions will be supervised by Mrs. Briesacher today.

Second floor is dismissed early for lunch this week.

The New Athens Police Department is looking for students between the ages of 14-21 to join the Explorer's Program.  This program teaches students about law enforcement, allows interaction with the police department, and looks great on a job application/resume.  Interested students can contact Officer Hill or Officer Spratt of the NAPD, or they can contact high school student Brian Meketa at school or at home.

Seniors will be meeting again during homeroom on Wednesday.

Afternoon Beck students do not have their Beck classes on Friday.

Mrs. Wolter is at a workshop today.

Although there are no confirmed cases of the "swine flu" in Illinois, the district is trying to be pro-active in preventing any type of contagious infections by stressing hand washing, reporting any flu-like symptoms to the nurse, and encouraging parents to keep sick children at home.  The district is also making hand sanitizer available in each classroom, has installed hand sanitizers in the cafeteria for use before students go through the lunch line, and will have students clean desks with sanitizing wipes once or twice each week.
