First floor is dismissed early for lunch this week and next.

There is an FFA Meeting tonight at 6pm in the Ag room.


Congratulations to the new president of student council for next school year:  Hannah Parker, and the new vice president for next school year:  Kalee Werle.

-Mr. Treece is not here this morning and the HS Library is closed.  Mrs. MConnell will be in the library 1st hour for walk-ins.  Mr. Treece will return by 5th hour.

-The HS Library will close on Monday May 17th.  Please return all books and settle any fines with Mr. Treece by then.  He will be less forgiving if he has to come and find you.  There is an overdue list and a fines owed list on the HS LIbrary door.

Seniors:  The Laptop scholarship applications are due to Mrs. Wolter at the beginning of the day on Monday, May 17th.

        Students attending SWIC in the Fall-SWIC is offering a Top 10% of the Class scholarship.  So if you are in the top 10% of your class and attending SWIC check in the guidance office for details.  Deadline: End of the School Year.

·         Bradley University is offering a residential Enrichment Leadership Program June 20-26th. Applications are available in guidance office.  Deadline for applications: 5-14-2010.  Bradley is also offering a Summer Forensics Institute July 11-24th.

·         All High School Students-Southern Illinois University Carbondale is having an Architecture Camp July 18-23, 2010.  Enrollment for this camp is first come first served.  In the past, these camps have filled up quickly.  Forms are available in the guidance office.

·         Juniors-The Better Business Bureau ‘Student of Ethics’ Award is being offered to students who show leadership, community service and academic ability.             Deadline:  5-14-10.

·         Seniors entering the medical care and well being of senior citizens field of study and related to an active member of United Steelworkers- United Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees is presenting their first annual scholarship.  Details available in the guidance office.  Deadline: 5-15-10.

·         Seniors-Anderson Hospital Medical Staff and The Anderson Auxiliary is offering 2 scholarships to students entering the medical field of study.  Applications and details are available in the guidance office.   Deadline: 5-15-10.



Senior FFA students who anticipate to graduate have the opportunity to fill out the New Athens FFA Alumni Scholarship. Please see Miss Hand for details. The scholarship application is due on Monday, May 17th.


The boy's Conference track meet is today at Columbia.


The girl's Sectional track meet is this Friday at Sparta.


The baseball team plays at Mater Dei on Thursday.



Congratulations to the softball team on placing 3rd at the Marissa tournament.


Athletes who did not attend the banquet last night should see their respective coaches, or Mr. "W" to get their awards.

The Senior overnight field trip to Holiday World is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday.


The Pops Concert "Music From Around the world" is this Thursday at 7:00 PM in the junior high gym.

Any student planning on attending the Awards Banquet on Monday needs to turn in their attendance form to the office.
The second day of cheerleading tryouts will tonight at 7PM.
